Reformation Day 2017
October 31, 2017 marked the 500 year anniversary of when Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the door of the church in Wittenberg, Germany. This event gave a huge kick start to the reforming of the church. Martin Luther later went on to translating the Bible to the people’s language so that everyone could know the love of Jesus, not just what the schooled officials told them.
Ellen White writes that “The church has a special work to do in educating and training its children that they may not, in attending school, or in any other association, be influenced by those of corrupt habits. The world is full of iniquity and disregard of the requirements of God…”(Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 6, p.217) We take that job seriously, and decided that instead of hosting a “Halloween” event, what better way to influence out children than to teach them history. We shared the Torchlighters, Martin Luther video as a fun way to give them knowledge of what Martin Luther went through for his faith and also a more in depth movie for the adults to enjoy.
The children had fun writing with feathers and ink, and realized how tough it must have been to have to hand write letters to spread the good news, let alone write a whole Bible. The invention of the printing press was a gift from God, it came at just the right time to help further his plan. And what kind of Reformation Day party would it be if we didn’t nail those 95 theses to the door? That seemed to be the most enjoyed activity.
We enjoyed Bible and German inspired snacks, provided by the mothers of all the beautiful children pictured above. We would like to thank everyone who came and helped make the day a hit!
